Leeds United were beaten 1-0 at Southampton on Saturday, but Alan Shearer is predicting better things for the Whites in the coming weeks.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men travelled down to the South Coast in search of a much-needed three points.

However, Leeds lost once again as Armando Broja hammered home Nathan Redmond’s pass to give Southampton a 1-0 win.

Leeds didn’t look their usual selves, managing just three shots. None of them were on target.

Leeds have won just one of their first eight Premier League games this season and have only managed to score more than once in one Premier League game.

Bielsa just hasn’t got going this season, but injuries are absolutely a factor here.

Shearer backs Leeds revival

Many are worried about Leeds, but pundit Alan Shearer thinks the Whites will be fine.

Shearer told Match of the Day that Leeds just have so many players out, highlighting Raphinha, Luke Ayling, Robin Koch, Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips.

All of those players missed Saturday’s game for one reason or another, and Shearer thinks Phillips is the big miss.

Shearer believes Phillips sets the tempo for Leeds and his absence is really hurting them right now, but predicts Leeds ‘will get better’ once players return.

“They’ve got so many out,” said Shearer. “They’ve got Raphinha out, Ayling out, Koch out, Bamford out, Phillips out. Only three shots today, none on target so they will get better.”

“They just lack that energy, I think [Phillips] just sets that tempo for Leeds and they badly miss him,” he added.
