Alan Shearer has criticised Kieran Trippier for his sloppy pass in the build-up to the goal scored by Bernardo Silva as Newcastle were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City.
The England international, who struggled up against Jack Grealish on the day gifted the ball to Nathan Ake, who gave it to the Sky Blues’ No.10, before a quick one-two led to the Portuguese international’s belter of a striker.

After Newcastle were beaten by Manchester City, Alan Shearer told Premier League Productions (04/03/2023, 2:30 pm) that he was seriously unimpressed by Kieran Tripper in the build-up to the goal.
“That was a really poor pass from [Kieran] Trippier. They played around the corner and [Erling] Haaland flicked it into Bernardo Silva [for the goal].”

Look, the £100,000-a-week man has been incredible throughout the season, which is why being overly critical of him would be unfair.
However, as Alan Shearer implied, Kieran Trippier was rather sloppy with his passing in the build-up to Bernardo Silva’s strike, which settled the game as Manchester City cut the gap on Arsenal by beating Newcastle.
Of course, it is key to understand that as sensational as Eddie Howe’s men have been this campaign, they are not an elite team yet, which is why such errors may be part and parcel of their growth.
