Manchester City and Liverpool are the two most exciting and attractive teams in the Premier League this season.

And the clubs will face off in the first leg at Anfield next Wednesday before the return fixture at the Etihad a week later.

Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions elect and Jurgen Klopp’s swashbuckling Reds are the last remaining English sides in the competition after Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur were knocked out in the last 16.

It means only one English club has the chance to make the final but on the flip side the Premier League is guaranteed at least one team in the semi-finals.

And now Premier League legend turned pundit Alan Shearer has explained why he has started leaning towards Liverpool in an interview with Coral.

“I didn’t think Liverpool were (equipped to win the Champions League) until the had the addition of (Virgil) van Dijk,” Shearer told Coral.

“I think he has without doubt helped them, I know they paid a lot of money for him, but he has tightened them up at the back.

“I still think I wouldn’t go past the two Spanish teams in Real Madrid and in Barcelona, I still think one of those two are the favourites.

“But it’s great that we’re going to have one team in the semi-final.”

One thing is for sure there promises to be goals with 12 goals between the two sides in the two league matches this season.

And with both managers famous for sticking to their guns over their attacking style there is no reason why fans won’t be in for another treat.
