Alan Shearer shared two big advantages that Liverpool have over Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title this season, when speaking exclusively to the Sun.

The Reds currently sit at the top of the pile, four points clear of second placed City, and they have been quite simply brilliant to watch this term.

Liverpool have not won the top flight title since 1990, and their fans will be desperate for their team to put an end to that barren run, closing the gap on 20-time champions Manchester United in the process.

And Shearer believes that this season could be their year.

The Newcastle legend told the Sun how Liverpool have two key factors in their favour over Manchester City in the race for the title:

BBC pundit Alan Shearer looks on before the FA Cup Second round match between Hartlepool United and Blyth Spartans at Victoria Park on December 5, 2014 in Hartlepool, England.

“Liverpool have the advantage of being able to make a mistake once while City will be thinking they have to win every game. Liverpool have to win the Premier League this year, they are out of the domestic cups so have that advantage.”

The race will likely go right down to their wire, and considering that both teams have already played each other twice, much will depend on how consistent they are against the smaller teams.

With 15 games to go, a lot can still happen, but Liverpool will not have a better chance to win the title than they do this season, that much is certain.
