Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer warns Sunderland against an easy ride in League One.

Sunderland will play in League One during the 2018-19 campaign after getting relegated from the Championship this season.
The Black Cats were playing in the Premier League only last season and have suffered back-to-back relegations.
Newcastle legend Shearer has warned Sunderland against expecting to bounce straight back to the Championship from League One.

Shearer wrote in The Sun about Sunderland: “It is going to be a long haul back and don’t bank on a quick promotion.
“Every game next season will be like a cup final for their opponents, who will see the Black Cats as a major scalp.”

Tough times ahead
Sunderland are one of the biggest clubs in England, but things have been dire for a while now at the Stadium of Light.
One suspects that the Black Cats will have to offload some of their highest-paid players in the summer transfer window, and they should then sign players who are young and hungry to succeed in the long run and can make an immediate impact at the club.
As for Newcastle, Rafael Benitez’s side look set to retain their Premier League status for the 2018-19 campaign.
