Alan Shearer has told Amazon Prime Video Sport that Tottenham will have to improve if they are to challenge for the Premier League title – during his role as co-commentator at Old Trafford. He was “surprised” by a lack of changes.
United cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes in the second half. An easy win, but more because Tottenham played into United’s hands – rather than trying to force the game.
Instead, Spurs allowed United to come on to them but the counter attack was non-existent. Spurs had a few half-chances, Harry Kane with the best in the second half. It never sat up, and United scored a second moments later.
With Spurs coming into the game in third, level on points with Manchester City and only four behind Arsenal, they had the chance to really put the pressure on. Shearer, though, delivered a damning verdict on their title chances.

He was “surprised” at Antonio Conte’s lack of changes: “In this moment in time, we’ll just have to wait and see. They’re very second best tonight. They’ve been dominated, I’m surprised they didn’t change. They’ll have to do a Iot more.”
Shearer: Tottenham will have to improve to challenge for title
Tottenham have looked excellent in some matches, and miles off it in others. Ultimately, if Spurs are going to do anything this season, they have got to be so much better against the likes of Manchester United and the top six.
It was a subdued performance from Tottenham. They sat too far off the likes of Casemiro and Fernandes, allowing them to dictate the game. While there was a bit of luck about the goals, Hugo Lloris saved Spurs time after time.
On this showing, Tottenham are not going to win the Premier League. However, they still have solid chances of finishing in the top four again. Is another fourth-placed finish enough to convince Antonio Conte to stay?
