Steve Bruce was appointed Newcastle United manager last month.

Alan Shearer spoke to exclusively to the Sun about Newcastle United’s defeat to Arsenal yesterday, and suggested that the Toon Army were right behind Steve Bruce throughout the entirety of the match.
Magpies owner Mike Ashley sacked Rafa Benitez before the start of the season, and brought Bruce in to take over from the Spaniard.
The decision was hardly greeted with much excitement from Newcastle fans, and understandably so, despite Bruce’s strong links to the Tyneside city.
The Toon got off to a poor start against Arsenal yesterday, losing 1-0 to Unai Emery’s side, but Shearer told the Sun how the 58-year-old actually received a positive response from the St James’ Park crowd:

“It’s just disappointing from Bruce’s point of view they couldn’t get an early point on the board. I didn’t see too many protests in the stadium. There were about 47,000 people there at St James’ Park — so there were around 5,000 missing. The fans were behind Steve and that’s good to see but their issue isn’t with him, it’s with the ownership. That’s been their issue and I totally get that.”
Things don’t get any easier for Newcastle.
They face trips to Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in their next four games, and if they fail to win their matches against Norwich City and Watford during that period, the pressure on Bruce really will begin to mount.
