Premier League legend Alan Shearer has delivered a withering assessment of wantaway West Ham United star Dimitri Payet and fired a warning to the club.
A forlorn Slaven Bilic told the world’s press last week that his talismanic Frenchman was effectively on strike and refusing to play for the club.
Despite not reaching the same levels he set last season and at the European Championships with France, this term Payet has still statistically been West Ham‘s most creative player.
Bilic, along with Hammers co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold, have insisted the player will not get his wish to be sold to former club Marseille – with claims his family are homesick – unless his valuation is met.

Supporters have left Payet in no doubt over their feelings since, particularly during the 3-0 win over Crystal Palace last time out.
Fans and pundits have been having their say on the situation, which has become a hot topic in the footballing world.
And now pundit Alan Shearer has waded into the debate with a warning for the Hammers while branding Payet’s behaviour unacceptable in an interview with Coral.
“First and foremost, everyone is entitled to ask to leave, however you have to do it the right way,” Shearer told Coral.
Premier League and England legend Alan Shearer
“You cannot say – “I am refusing to play and train, get me out of here.” That is disgusting behaviour, and is totally disrespectful, not only for your teammates but also the club and fans who pay money to watch you.
“What makes it even worse is he recently signed a new contract, and he was given loyalty bonuses as well, so it’s no surprise to see some of the anger which has come his way.
“The problem is the club has to still pay them (player who want away) and if they are on £150,000 a week, it is a messy situation for both parties. If the player is adamant he wants to leave, you have to just get the best price and get rid of them out of your football club before it affects the dressing room.”
Shearer may well have a point given the sharp contrast in West Ham’s performances this season compared to last.
The Independent has even reported that West Ham’s players deleted the former hero from a group WhatsApp chat and told him he was not welcome at a team meal.
Whatever happens, Shearer is spot on regarding the expected code of conduct, particularly for a player who was idolised and well rewarded for playing for the East Londoners.
