Tottenham Hotspur play host to Manchester City in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash tomorrow.

Alan Shearer shared his belief that Tottenham need to take a two-goal advantage into the second-leg of their Champions League clash with Manchester City, if they are to stand any chance whatsoever of progressing through to the semi-finals of the competition, when writing his regular column for the Sun.

Spurs have been in poor form domestically recently, taking just four points from their last six Premier League games, but they have been in imperious form in Europe, comfortably beating Borussia Dortmund over two legs in the first knockout stage of the Champions League.

Manchester City have been unstoppable recently, winning 22 of their last 23 games in all competitions, and Tottenham will have to be on their very best form if they are to stop Pep Guardiola’s rampant side.

And Shearer highlighted the size of the task ahead for Spurs, when writing his regular column for the Sun:

BBC pundit Alan Shearer looks on before the FA Cup Second round match between Hartlepool United and Blyth Spartans at Victoria Park on December 5, 2014 in Hartlepool, England.

“In my view, Mauricio Pochettino’s side need at least a two-goal lead heading to the Etihad if they want to reach the Champions League semi-finals. But if anything should give them hope, it is their new home. The players, and the fans, will now know what to expect when they turn up tomorrow night. And while Spurs should not fear their English rivals and the new stadium enhances their chances, City are still the strong favourites to go through over two legs.”

Tottenham must go for City from the very first whistle, and try to unsettle the visitors, if they are to have any chance of toppling the Premier League champions.

Whatever happens, however, there should be a cracking game of football on display in north London tomorrow night.
