Alan Shearer criticises Wembley atmosphere during Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Crystal Palace

Tottenham Hotspur beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Wembley yesterday.

Alan Shearer has told Match of the Day 2, which was broadcast on BBC One on 5th November, that he felt that the atmosphere during Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Crystal Palace was very flat.

Spurs beat Palace 1-0 at Wembley yesterday, but their performance did not reach the heights that it did against Real Madrid.

Tottenham were off the pace, with Palace creating a number of chances during the contest.

And Shearer felt that Spurs were always likely to suffer a poor performance, after dispatching with Madrid so comfortably only a few days ago.

“It was always going to be a flat day for Spurs after their midweek game against Real Madrid,” Shearer said.

“The crowd was flat, the performance was flat, but they got the job done.”

Tottenham owed much to back-up goalkeeper Paolo Gazzaniga, as he made some excellent saves during the contest.

Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend had presentable opportunities for Palace, but Roy Hodgson’s side were not able to make Spurs pay.

Tottenham scored their goal through Heung Min Son, with the South Korean curling in a fine effort to break the deadlock.

Tottenham are now in third place in the Premier League table, and they have closed the gap on Manchester United.
