Tottenham Hotspur could only hold on to claim a draw against Watford yesterday.

BBC pundit Alan Shearer looks on before the FA Cup Second round match between Hartlepool United and Blyth Spartans at Victoria Park on December 5, 2014 in Hartlepool, England.

Alan Shearer has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on BBC One on 2nd December, that he believes Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen were both poor as Tottenham Hotspur could only pick up a point against Watford at Vicarage Road.

Eriksen and Alli have been two of Tottenham’s poorest performers, during their recent struggles.

Spurs have failed to win any of their last four Premier League matches, and the creative duo were off the pace again.

Eriksen and Alli failed to provide a spark, as Tottenham battled to a 1-1 draw with the Hornets.

Tottenham fell behind in the contest when Christian Kabasele headed home from a corner, and it was down to Heung-Min Son to rescue a point from the Lilywhites.

And Shearer has suggested that Spurs’ tendency to fall behind in games simply has to be stopped, if Mauricio Pochettino’s side are to succeed this season.

“It’s alright playing the glory games. But they keep starting the games so poorly in the Premier League,” Shearer said. “You’ll get punished. Eriksen was poor again today, sloppy.

“They’re missing Alderweireld, but that’s no excuse for the way they are starting games and aren’t up for games. I thought Dele Alli was poor again.

“You can’t just win the big games. You’ve got to turn up against the so called smaller teams, and that’s why Spurs won’t win the league.”

Tottenham are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table, with Pochettino’s side now having to play catch up in the race for a top four place.

Spurs are currently four points behind fourth placed Liverpool, with their next domestic game coming against Stoke City next weekend.
