Newcastle United have made only two signings so far in the summer transfer window.

Back in August 2017, Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley told Sky Sports that that he cannot compete with clubs such as Manchester City in transfer markets.
Ashley added that he cannot write a cheque for £200 million for Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez to spend on players.
The Magpies did make one relatively expensive signing last summer – Jacob Murphy from Norwich City for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £12 million – but they have not been too active this time around.
Newcastle have signed Ki Sung-yueng on a free transfer and have spent £4m to make Martin Dubravka’s loan deal permanent, as reported by The Chronicle.
The Magpies need to make additions to their squad in order to have a successful 2018-19 Premier League campaign and have to spend money to bring in quality signings.
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his take on the Magpies’ relative inactivity in the summer transfer window so far and on Ashley’s comments last summer.
