The Everton goalkeeper was largely to blame as the Toffees lost 1-0 at Anfield.

Alan Shearer has written in The Sun that Everton’s Jordan Pickford will endure sleepless nights following his ‘monumental error’ at Anfield.
Everton looked set to earn a hard-fought point in Sunday’s Merseyside derby, but Divock Origi headed home a last-gasp winner to seal a 1-0 victory for Liverpool.
It was a farcical winning goal from the Toffees’ perspective, after Pickford needlessly saved a shot that was heading over the crossbar, before Origi pounced.
The former Sunderland goalkeeper acknowledged his mistake to the visiting fans at full-time, and Shearer claims that the sooner he plays again, the better.
Shearer told The Sun: “Jordan Pickford will wish he could play again today.
“The only way he is going to get over yesterday’s monumental error is by getting back out on the pitch and making saves again and putting in performances.
“But even then, Pickford will probably still not sleep for a week – or maybe even longer. I can only think that he was trying to prevent a corner with it being so late on in the game.

“But he knows there is no escaping his catastrophic mistake, which is why he held his hands up to the Everton fans the end of the game.”
To be fair, Shearer is spot-on here.
It’s essential that the Everton star rebuilds his confidence as soon as possible and the best way to achieve that is, well, by playing football and making the sort of saves that he’s capable of.
Loris Karius is proof that a very good goalkeeper can suffer a tremendous amount from a big-game error and although Pickford didn’t exactly cost the Toffees a Champions League final, he did help Liverpool in the Premier League title hunt.
Everton host Newcastle at Goodison Park on Wednesday and Pickford will be desperate to make amends.
