Sunderland have won their last two Premier League to move off the bottom of the table.
Alan Shearer has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on 19th November on BBC one, that Sunderland’s front three have been the reason behind their turnaround.
Sunderland failed to win any of their first 10 Premier League matches this season, but they been victorious in their last two outings.
The Black Cats first beat Bournemouth 2-1 at Dean Court, before picking up a 3-0 victory over Hull City at the Stadium of Light yesterday.
And Shearer has been very impressed by Sunderland’s new look front three – made up of Duncan Watmore, Victor Anichebe and Jermain Defoe.
“The front three [have turned things around],” Shearer said. “A bit of pace, a bit of strength, and someone who can put the ball in the net. They have a bit of everything. That’s the difference.”
Anichebe and Defoe were both on the scoresheet during Sunderland’s win over Bournemouth, and they repeated the feat against Hull yesterday.
Defoe opened the scoring for Sunderland against the Tigers, before Anichebe scored a brace.
Anichebe’s impact at Sunderland has been massive, with the striker putting in some brilliant performances for Moyes’ side.
Sunderland are now in 19th place in the Premier League table, and they have moved to within three points of safety.
