Alan Shearer has claimed that Everton boss Frank Lampard was ‘used’ at Chelsea for who he was, as he told Premier League Productions (08/02/22 at 7:15 pm).

The former Premier League striker thinks Lampard, who is now hoping to get Everton out of their current mess, will feel that he was ‘harshly treated’ at Chelsea.

Last January, Chelsea sacked their legendary player after a slump in form in the Premier League.

Thomas Tuchel was the man who replaced him in the Stamford Bridge dugout, and to the surprise of many, Chelsea went on to win the Champions League.

That would have been a huge learning curve for Lampard and he will be now hoping to showcase his worth at Goodison Park.

Shearer is backing him to do a ‘good job’ on Merseyside, as he shared his thoughts on how things went for him at his previous home.

“He will feel that he was pretty harshly treated at Chelsea,” said Shearer. “Perhaps he feels that he was used at Chelsea, for who he was and the situation that they were in.

“I think he did a reasonable job, given the circumstances, when he couldn’t sign and he had to play a few of the youngsters. And they were successful for him.

“I think he could do a good job at Everton and he will certainly want to.”

Life hasn’t started off in the fashion Lampard would have liked, even though they breezed past Brentford in the FA Cup.

The defeat at Newcastle, and the manner of performance, was worrying and one that makes the Toffees look over their shoulders regarding the relegation battle.

But, at the end of the day, that’s why Lampard replaced Rafa Benitez and such a performance will only further tell him the serious problems at the club.

This hasn’t just been a Benitez issue, but several managers, players, ceo’s and an owner, just not making the right calls or putting in the expected performances.
