Alan Shearer claims ‘a little crack’ has appeared with Liverpool 23-year-old

Alan Shearer has claimed that ‘a little crack’ has appeared with Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, as he told BBC Sport. 

The Premier League’s all-time top-scorer was making reference to Darwin Nunez’s sending-off against Crystal Palace last month for headbutting Joachim Anderson and how others might now feel he can now be ‘pushed to breaking point’.

It was a learning curve for the 23-year-old and one where Anderson didn’t do much to provoke the player, other than being in a physical battle with the summer signing, who shouldn’t have reacted as he did.

After serving his suspension, Jurgen Klopp threw Nunez back into the drama and heat of the Merseyside derby by starting him ahead of the in-form, Roberto Firmino on Saturday.

Nunez couldn’t have the impact he would have liked as the Reds recorded a goalless draw, but he did mock Everton defender Conor Coady, after his goal was ruled for offside. 

Nonetheless, this is what Shearer had to say about Nunez and how the club’s big summer signing could have a target on his head.

“[Darwin Nunez will be targeted] It is not only going to happen (against Everton),” said Shearer.

“It is going to happen in the future as well because a little crack has appeared. If you didn’t already know with Nunez then you saw the reaction with Joachim Anderson.

“So it is going to happen, he is going to get wound up, people have seen now that he has got that little chink in his armour – that he can be pushed to breaking point.

“Some great players, this is what makes them tick. They have got that little bit of devil in them. They enjoy it and get a kick out of that.”

NUNEZ’S CONTROL AND PATIENCE 

There is nothing wrong with having a bit of aggression, bite and the ability to wind up the opposition.

As mentioned by Shearer, it might allow some players to tick and elevate their game and push themselves to bigger heights.

As long as Nunez can control and be patient at the right time, then that needle he has to his game might not just allow the player to grow himself, but the whole team also.

Of course, his headbutt on Anderson was well out of order, but judging by the player’s early weeks in the Premier League, it seems as though he will provide some serious entertainment.
