Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer now thinks Harry Kane should look to leave Tottenham Hotspur following their deserved 3-1 defeat to Brentford on Saturday.

Prior to the match, the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer told BBC Sport that he felt that Harry Kane would ‘see his career out at Tottenham‘.

But, on Match of the Day, later on that evening, he told viewers that it’s high time he ‘looked at his options’, as he joked with Gary Lineker that if he joined Newcastle United, then he would be ‘sat on the bench’, so he doesn’t break his goalscoring record.

Even though Spurs are in decline and in a mess, both on and off the field of play, one thing that has remained consistent, is the performances of Kane.

The 29-year-old scored a quite stunning free-kick to open the scoring against Brentford, only for his side to produce another defensive disasterclass and lose 3-1.

That strike was Kane’s 28th of the campaign – only Erling Haaland has more in the Premier League this term – with Shearer sharing his thoughts on the England captain’s future, before and after yesterday’s game.

“I think he will be there next season,” said Shearer before the Brentford defeat. “I just think because of his love for the football club. I see him as a guy who loves the club. He has been there during the tough times and a long time. I just see him seeing his career out at Tottenham.”

But after Spurs were beaten by Thomas Frank’s men, Shearer told MOTD: “If it was me in his situation now, then I would look at my options. He has been so loyal to Tottenham. He has been so brilliant for Tottenham. I don’t think any Spurs fan can complain if he said ‘I have done my time. I have to look elsewhere now’.

Asked by Gary Lineker if Newcastle should sign him: “Only for him to sit on the bench, so he doesn’t break the record,” joked the 260-goal man.

HARRY KANE TRANSFER TO NEWCASTLE?

Well, after Liverpool dropped points at home to Aston Villa on Saturday, it now means that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle only need a point from their final two games and they will be playing Champions League football next season.

That’s a competition Kane wants and needs to be playing in. Newcastle can offer that. A huge financial package would come from his possible transfer. Newcastle can afford that. Then the talk of trophies.

It’s been a long time coming for those at St James’ Park, but it now seems as though they have more of a chance of ending their trophy drought than Spurs, so that’s probably another tick.

In truth, it won’t happen, but if the Magpies want to really stick their chest out, then they should go all guns blazing for Kane in the summer because it would send out a statement of all statements.
