Declan Rice has only been in Arsenal colours for a matter of months, but he is already cooking like never before.

Despite a massive spotlight on Declan Rice’s head when he joined from West Ham United, mainly because of the £100 million price tag, he is shaking all of that off and proving to be one of Arsenal’s most important players in their Premier League title push.

Alan Shearer couldn’t stop talking about him by stating that he did ‘everything’ well during his side’s 2-0 win against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, as he told The Rest is Football Podcast

The Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer repeated Ian Wright’s comments by stating that Declan Rice has proven to be a ‘bargain’ transfer for Arsenal, which Gary Lineker thinks is ‘quite the statement’.

It wasn’t easy for Arsenal to secure the signature of the 24-year-old, especially when Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City were also keen on the all-action midfielder.

But all those efforts from the summer, and the perception that the club perhaps overpaid, are now starting to bear fruit.

In nearly every game, he is proving to be the best player on the pitch and Alan Shearer is loving what he is seeing.

Declan Rice a ‘bargain’ transfer for Arsenal

“I know we keep mentioning him, but oh my god, Declan Rice,” said Shearer. “Honestly, in everything he did.

“Whether he was protecting the back four. Bursting forward with the ball and having efforts at goal. He was fantastic.

“Wrighty said it, ‘he is making £100 million look like a bargain’. “

Lineker responded: “That’s quite the statement, isn’t it, for a defensive (midfielder)?!”

Signing of the season

With the Premier League at the halfway stage, you can start to judge and analyse the good, bad and the ugly of the campaign so far.

If you were to ask the question, who has been the signing of the season? You would have done very well to put your name above Rice’s.

Tottenham have had a few players, such as James Maddison, who have been outstanding for them, but he has been injured for a while now.

Whilst high-flying Aston Villa have, once again, showcased their worth in the transfer market, with Pau Torres proving to be a solid buy.

But Rice is probably top of that list so far because, as of this moment, with the Gunners sitting top of the table, he is driving them to the title.
