Alan Shearer has criticised Anthony Gordon for his miss in the 1st half which certain cost Newcastle United as they lost 2-0 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
While Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva took their opportunities with precision, the same cannot be said about Eddie Howe’s men, who missed chance after chance. And against sides that possess the quality of City, that always proves costly.
Alan Shearer felt the same after Newcastle were beaten by Manchester City as he went on to slate Anthony Gordon.
Alan Shearer criticises Newcastle star Anthony Gordon for poor miss vs Manchester City
While the 22-year-old has looked the part since joining the club, he miskicked the ball when the ball arrived to him inside the box behind the Sky Blues defence, which was otherwise an easy chance, albeit on his weaker left foot.
After Newcastle were defeated by Manchester City, Alan Shearer told Premier League Productions (04/03/2023, 2:35pm) that he was disappointed to see Anthony Gordon not put his chance.

“This is a really poor miss. I don’t care who you’re playing against, you have to put those away. This is at 0-0. That is a good opportunity. Really good opportunity. It’s a free shot.”
Shearer is bang on the money
When one goes up against the Premier League champions, the last thing you can afford is to miss gilt-edged chances.
Unfortunately for Newcastle and Alan Shearer, Antony Gordon did against Manchester City, which proved crucial in the final result.
The ex-Everton winger should have done better but instead, was uncharacteristically clumsy and that’s that.
However, the Englishman is only a young player and he will only learn from such mistakes by honing parts of his game that he needs to improve such as his finishing, which is why it would be harsh to criticise him excessively.
