Arsenal’s Premier League season has drawn to a close and they will be licking their wounds.
For the second season running, Mikel Arteta has watched his players miss out on the Premier League title to the all-dominant Manchester City.
Whatever the reasoning behind Arsenal not becoming champions of England, you still can’t fault the performances of the players.
From Kai Havertz up top, Declan Rice in midfield, the likes of Ben White, William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes at the back, or even David Raya.
They were all near-on faultless in their performances and they will be hoping to now transform that onto the international stage.
International football will now take centre stage this summer. Euro 2024 and the Copa America.
Many Arsenal stars are expected to feature, and unlike on the domestic stage, hoping to bring some silverware home.
But one man who will be staying at home is White. England announced their training squad for Euro 2024 on Tuesday, with White not included.
The £50 million signing hasn’t been part of Gareth Southgate’s squad since coming home early from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Alan Shearer stated that it’s a crying ‘shame’ and a ‘mess’ that White and England are in such a situation, as he told The Rest is Football.
The Three Lions are one of the favourites to win the whole tournament after losing to Italy in the finals last time out.
Yet White, who has been one of the more consistent defenders this term, won’t feature and will instead be improving on that tan of his in some holiday resort.
Ben White is not included in the England squad for Euro 2024
“Such a shame,” responded Shearer to White’s situation with England. “Bloody hell, man. You are going to a Euros tournament. You have had a season like Ben White has had and he isn’t going to be in that England squad.
“I mean, it’s such a shame. Come on, guys. Whatever it is. Whatever the reason. You have got to sit down, clear the air and say ‘Let’s just sort this out for the sake of playing for our country’.
“They have got an unbelievable chance of winning the Euros. Yet, he isn’t going to play a part in that after the season he has had. What a mess. What a shame.”

Ben White is underrated for Arsenal
A reliable defender who deserves more recognition for his performances. One of the big reasons why Arsenal had such a strong defence this season – the best in the Premier League – was because of players like White.
There aren’t many times when you see him flustered or in trouble. This is a centre-back playing as a right-sided fullback, yet he does it with ease.

All around the clock, he is consistent and an 8/10. It could even be argued that he would probably start for England if he was still playing international football.
But from Arsenal’s selfish perspective, this is another player that will be rested this summer, as they push for the title again next season.
