Alan Shearer and a host of Newcastle United players have responded on Instagram to the news that the Toon have smashed their record transfer by securing a £59million deal for Sweden striker Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.
Isak, 22, has penned a long-term contract on Tyneside in a deal that will be worth an initial £55million. Another £4million in add-ons will go to Real Sociedad, while a sell-on clause has also been included in a deal for Isak.
It sees Newcastle and Eddie Howe finally add a third striker to the Toon squad. The club have wanted to bring in another forward to strengthen their options in the final third, alongside Chris Wood and Callum Wilson.
Wilson’s injury record is a concern, as is Wood’s lack of goals. With wonderkid Isak now onboard, Newcastle have a third, top-quality option. Shearer took to Instagram to congratulate Isak on his move to his beloved Newcastle.

It gives Eddie Howe more options in the final third. As aforementioned, England international Wilson continues to struggle with injury issues. He is set to be out for the next couple of weeks. Wood scored this week.
However, the New Zealand international only has three goals in 21 appearances for Newcastle since joining the club in January. While he gives Newcastle much more than goals, the Toon need another goalscoring option.
They now have that in Isak and it is clear his addition has excited his new teammates. Among those to respond on their stories are Kieran Trippier, Joe Willock and Emil Krafth – the latter being a Sweden teammate of Isak.
Trippier said: “Welcome”, Willock said: “Welcome bro” and Krafth commented: “Welcome brother”.
