Alan Shearer and Ian Wright believe Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin needs to improve on his movement if he is to add goals to his game.

The 22-year-old started for the Toffees as they recorded a frustrating goalless draw at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking to Match of the Day on BBC One (27/04/2019 at 11:50 pm), Shearer and Wright offered their thoughts on Calvert-Lewin.

“Absolutely [needs to add more goals],” Shearer told MOTD. “I like his hold up play. He’s a willing runner. But you’re right the one thing he has to improve on is his goalscoring.

“The one thing I would say to him is about his run [off the ball]. He doesn’t make it as difficult for the defender as he should do. Yes, he can learn [from] that. There are so many drills you can do in training to improve your movement.

Ian Wright added: “The thing with that is you have to get used to doing that in training then you can do it naturally.

There is no doubt that Calvert-Lewin is growing as a footballer for Everton, but they desperately need a regular goalscorer playing up top for them.

At this moment in time, Calvert-Lewin can’t provide them with that consistency, but he is making other players around him better and he is proving to be a nuisance to opposition defenders.

Against Palace, the Sheffield-born player got himself into a number of attacking positions, but he just wasn’t able to test the opposition keeper in the manner in which he would have liked.

That result dents Marco Silva’s chances of finishing in the top seven now because his team are four points behind Wolves with two matches of the season remaining.
