Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy react to West Ham’s FA Cup result

West Ham were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw in the FA Cup clash against Shrewsbury Town.

West Ham United produced a toothless performance as they managed a frustrating 0-0 draw against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup clash on Sunday.

The result, however, is massive for the hosts, who earned an FA Cup third round replay at the London Stadium. They put in a very impressive performance but couldn’t find the winner.

David Moyes made four changes from Thursday’s Premier League draw against Tottenham, with Joe Hart being recalled to the first team and made captain for his return to his boyhood club.

Ben Godfrey nearly scored from Shaun Whalley’s free-kick, while Mat Sadler’s effort was saved by Hart.

West Ham offered little to trouble the Shrewsbury defence, and had only four touches in the opposition penalty area.

Newcastle United legend and Match of the day pundit, Alan Shearer described the performance as terrible.

“There is no way West Ham can play that poorly again in the replay. West Ham were terrible,” Shearer told BBC One (live blog entry; 07/01/2018 – 15:59pm).

Another former England midfielder turned football pundit Danny Murphy wasn’t too impressed with the performance either.

“Nolan’s pass had to be a bit more delayed and played a little further ahead,” Murphy told BBC One (live blog entry; 07/01/2018 – 15:58 pm). West Ham nearly threw it away at the end there. They are lucky to come away from here with a draw. There must be disappointment from West Ham fans.”
