Newcastle have made just one signing so far this summer, with Benitez becoming frustrated with his side’s inactivity in the transfer market.
And Huddlestone is said to be the latest target on Benitez’s wishlist.
Newcastle are now attempting to bring in the experienced midfielder for £2 million, and it is a transfer move that Alan Pardew will approve of.
Pardew told the Journal, while he was in charge of Newcastle, that Huddlestone was a player he would have loved to have brought to St. James’ Park.
He said: “Huddlestone was a player I really liked.
“He was someone I would like to have brought here and he has proved at Hull what a good player he is.
“He didn’t come close (to joining Newcastle) really. It was more discussions about a player who would fit well with the way I play.”
Newcastle’s interest in Huddlestone is actually very long-standing, with the Magpies first linked way back in 2009 on Goal.Com.
If Huddlestone was to move to Newcastle this summer, he would be in competition with the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden and Jack Colback for a first-team place.
