The West Bromwich Albion forward suffered a hamstring injury against Chelsea last night.
Baggies boss Alan Pardew addressed the media in the aftermath of his side’s bitterly disappointing 3-0 defeat away at Chelsea last night, and provided an update on the crocked Daniel Sturridge, who was forced off after just three minutes against the Blues with a hamstring injury, as quoted by the Express & Star.
West Brom remain firmly rooted at the bottom of the Premier League table after last night’s defeat, and are now a really worrying seven points adrift of safety, with only 11 league games remaining.
Sturridge, 28, was brought in from Liverpool on loan in January, and many expected him to score the goals that would fire the Baggies to safety, on the one condition that he remained fit.
Pardew spoke to reporters after the game last night, and explained why he hopes to have the England international back to action sooner rather than later, as quoted by the Express & Star:
“It was a blow to lose Danny,” said Pardew. “We’re hoping it’s not too bad. We don’t think it’s a tear or anything. “It might keep him out of the FA Cup (match against Southampton on Saturday) but he could be back in a couple of weeks. He’s absolutely devastated. It was that first run, maybe it was a bit of adrenalin from a 60m run into the corner.”
Following Saturday’s FA Cup clash with the Saints, West Brom will welcome relegation rivals Huddersfield Town to the Hawthorns, and nothing less than a win will do for Pardew’s side, as they look to climb their way up the table.
