Alan Pardew shares what left him scratching his head during West Brom’s defeat to Burnley

West Bromwich Albion were outplayed by Burnley in the Premier League yesterday.

West Brom boss Alan Pardew spoke to reporters during his post-match press conference, after his side’s bitterly disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Burnley yesterday, and shared what left him scratching his head on the sidelines, as quoted by the Express & Star.

The Baggies’ hopes of avoiding the drop were all but put to bed after yesterday’s defeat to the Clarets, and they now have just six games remaining with which to close the 10 point gap between them and safety.

West Brom were appalling during the first-half against Sean Dyche’s stubborn Clarets side, and they never looked like threatening the opposition.

Pardew highlighted his side’s total lack of energy and enthusiasm as a major problem for them yesterday, when speaking to reporters, sharing what left him scratching his head on the sidelines, as quoted by the Express & Star:

“The first half at Bournemouth to today was a vast contrast. I’m scratching my head on the sideline. We’re not engaging, we’re not higher up the pitch. Pressure does strange things to you. We looked so tentative and defensive first half. We were not engaging Burnley at all.”

If West Brom are to have any chance whatsoever of avoiding the drop this term, they probably have to win five of their remaining six games, and considering the fact that they have won just three league games all season long, Championship football next season seems to be a certainty for them.
