Newcastle United have brought in five new players so far this summer.

Alan Pardew has told the Debate, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 9th August, that he would be very surprised if Newcastle United do not bring in a flair player this summer.

Newcastle have had a frustrating summer so far, with only five new players arriving.

Javier Manquillo, Mikel Merino, Christian Atsu, Florian Lejeune and Jacob Murphy have all signed up at St. James’ Park.

However, Rafael Benitez was known to be wanting more new additions, and Pardew believes that Newcastle still have a flair player to be signed up before the end of the month.

The former Magpies boss said: “One thing you have to have at Newcastle is an entertainer. They need a big-hitter. That’s what they’re trying to nail down.

“I’m not talking with any insight, by the way, but I would be very surprised if they don’t bring in an entertainer, a striker, a flair player, someone who is going to get the Geordies off their seats roaring.”

Benitez is believed to be fairly frustrated with Newcastle’s lack of activity in the transfer window, with more additions needed.

Newcastle’s current squad does not look too much stronger than the one which won promotion from the Championship last season.

The Magpies are expected to make further transfers before the end of the month, with a striker likely to be on Benitez’s wishlist.

Newcastle get their season under way on Sunday, when they take on title chasing Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park.
