Alan Pardew responds when asked about West Brom break clause

Alan Pardew has appeared to be on the brink at West Bromwich Albion for several weeks with Premier League relegation on the cards.

In comments reported by the Express and Star, Alan Pardew has insisted that it is not true that there is a break clause in his West Brom contract as recent reports had suggested.

The Daily Mail was one of the media outlets to suggest that the West Brom hierarchy would be able to terminate Pardew’s contract at the end of the season for a lower cost than if they got rid of the 56-year-old at any other time of the season.

The idea of the clause arguably meant that the board’s decision to keep Pardew made a bit more sense amongst the disgruntled supporters, with relegation out of the Premier League appearing to be a formality at this stage of the campaign.

However, in the wake of the Baggies’ agonising loss to Bournemouth – which had initially seen Jay Rodriguez put the division’s bottom side ahead – Pardew seemed to provide some clarity on the reported break clause.

“That’s not true actually,” he said, as reported by the Express and Star, when asked about the reports regarding the existence of a break clause.

It has been an awful tenure for Pardew at The Hawthorns with West Brom seemingly just a handful of games away from having their relegation to the second tier confirmed.

The Baggies go into the international break off the back of a run of eight successive defeats in all competitions and now find themselves 10 points off safety with just seven games to go.
