The West Bromwich Albion centre-back has been linked with a move away from the Hawthorns.
Baggies boss Alan Pardew spoke to reporters during his pre-match press conference, ahead of his side’s trip to Stoke City on Saturday, and refused to rule out the sale of Jonny Evans in January, as quoted by Sky Sports.
West Brom are currently in a whole world of trouble, and sit precariously in 19th position in the Premier League table, two points adrift of safety.
The Black Country outfit would surely have been in an even worse position without Evans, however, and losing him during the January transfer window would surely be nothing other than an absolute disaster for the Baggies.
Pardew, though, refused to rule out selling the 29-year-old.
The 56-year-old addressed the media today during his pre-match press conference, and highlighted the need for West Brom to be realistic regarding Evans’ situation, as quoted by Sky Sports:
“You have to be realistic in these situations. Jonny Evans is a top player and there were other clubs who were interested in him in the summer – I know that and so does he. “We all have to be intelligent and straightforward about how we deal with it. He’s under contract with West Brom and that’s how it remains until such time as there’s a bid that makes it any different.
Pardew’s words regarding Evans will hardly inspire Baggies fans, and they will be extremely concerned at the prospect of losing the Northern Ireland international next month, regardless of the potentially large transfer fee their club would receive for his services.
