Southampton put West Bromwich Albion to the sword at the Hawthorns yesterday.
Baggies boss Alan Pardew addressed the media in the aftermath of his side’s disappointing 3-2 defeat to Southampton at the Hawthorns yesterday, and offered a potential reason why his side were second best to the Saints, as quoted by the club’s official website.
West Brom are currently in a whole world of trouble, having won just one Premier League game since August, and sit rock bottom of the table, a distant four points adrift of safety.
Things don’t get any easier for the Black Country outfit, with a trip to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea next up on the horizon, and they could find themselves a long way adrift at the bottom if they fail to pick up any points in west London.
Pardew was visibly disheartened, when speaking to reporters after the game yesterday, and explained how the midweek defeat to Manchester City really took it out of his side, as quoted by WBA.co.uk:
“I think we covered more distance at Manchester City on Wednesday night than we have in any other game this season. And I think that showed today. Southampton looked a yard quicker than us. The 20 minutes before half-time knocked us. We couldn’t get a grip of the game and they were dominating. It was unfortunate for us that they scored twice in that period with two quick goals. When you’re up against a team that are a little bit fresher they can slow the clock down and manage the game which was frustrating for us.”
With only 12 games remaining this season, West Brom will need to start picking up victories sooner rather than later, if they are to avoid relegation to the Championship.
