Newcastle United have made five signings so far this summer.

Alan Pardew has told The Debate, which was broadcast on Sky Sports on 9th August, that Brighton & Hove Albion’s starting line-up is stronger than Newcastle United’s.

Newcastle narrowly beat Brighton to the Championship title last season on the final day of the campaign.

And Pardew feels that Newcastle’s victory owed much to the depth of the squad that Rafael Benitez had available.

With both Brighton and Newcastle doing a limited amount of summer business there has been some concerns over how the pair will cope with the step up to the Premier League.

And Pardew feels that Brighton actually have the stronger starting line-up of the pair.

When asked about Newcastle’s transfer business, he said: “I still think there’s business to be done there. I think Newcastle definitely need two or three players to go in there.

“I would say Brighton’s starting 11 is slightly stronger than Newcastle’s, but Newcastle’s squad was bigger. They need the starting 11 improved, and that’s where Rafa is looking.”

Newcastle have brought in five new players to date this summer, but Benitez is known to have wanted more additions by this point.

The Magpies’ season starts on Sunday with a tough test against a Tottenham Hotspur side who are among the favourites to lift the Premier League title.
