Alan Pardew has told Goals on Sunday on Sky Sports (broadcast on 21/10 from 11:00) that he is expecting West Ham to be absolutely fine this season after they suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League.

Manuel Pellegrini’s men now only find themselves two points above the bottom three as Erik Lamela’s header proved to be the difference during their clash with Tottenham at the London Stadium on Sunday.

It was a largely positive performance from West Ham, and Hugo Lloris needed to bail Spurs out with a string of fine saves to deny Marko Arnautovic on three occasions in the second-half. And despite their slightly concerning position, former Irons boss Pardew was adamant that he cannot see his old side having any problem pulling away from the bottom three.

“I thought they started very poorly (this season). They looked awful to be honest, but then slowly they’re starting to produce and look like a team,” he told Goals on Sunday.

“They’ve certainly got the individuals to stay in the Premier League. No matter how good you are as a team, you need individuals who are going to win games for you out of nothing. Arnautovic, of course, is the main player at West Ham who can do that.

“So I have no issues with West Ham being involved in a relegation scrap. They’re going to be fine. It’s just going to be how good they gel to climb up the league.”

It would certainly be no surprise if many West Ham fans shared the same confidence as Pardew. Despite the six defeats in the league, the Hammers have shown so many signs that suggest that they should not face anything like the same problems that David Moyes’ men contended with last season.

And with West Ham set to face only three of the current top 10 before the turn of the year, Pellegrini’s men now have a fantastic chance to get some momentum under their belt and put much more daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.
