West Bromwich Albion are currently in all sorts of trouble.
Baggies boss Alan Pardew spoke to reporters during his pre-match press conference today, ahead of his side’s trip to Exeter in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday, and responded when asked what is his priority during the January transfer window, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
West Brom are currently deeply entrenched in a relegation battle, and sit precariously in 19th position in the Premier League table, four points adrift of safety, having not won a league game since August 19th.
Pardew’s appointment as manager was expected to coincide with an improvement in results for the Black Country outfit, but that has so far failed to materialise, although there has been a noticeable spike in their performances.
The 56-year-old addressed the media today during his pre-match press conference, and responded when asked whether signing a new striker will be his priority this month, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail:
“Correct. You’ve only got to look at our record, we’ve lost the least games of anyone down the bottom but drawn too many games. Our goals for column isn’t good enough to stay in the Premier League and therefore that needs to change. We’re doing a lot better but we still need to improve that column that’s holding us back. Score goals, you win games.”
With just 16 league goals scored in the 24 games they have played thus far, West Brom desperately need to find a way of becoming more prolific in the remaining 16 games of the season.
If they fail to do that, relegation to the Championship will be almost a foregone conclusion.
