Alan Pardew has told West Ham’s website Newcastle have a “great, young manager” in Eddie Howe. It is somewhat a change of heart to previous claims made by Pardew, when he questioned Howe’s lack of experience.
Howe, 44, has guided Newcastle to three straight Premier League wins and the feeling around Tyneside is completely different to what it was under Steve Bruce. The Toon have climbed out of the relegation zone.
Back in November, not long after Eddie Howe had been handed the position as manager, Pardew told the Mail that he might lack the experience: “With all due respect, hasn’t managed a big club and will find that difficult.”
But speaking to West Ham’s website ahead of lunchtime’s clash between West Ham and Newcastle, his two old sides, Pardew has changed his tune on Howe – praising the work he has done on and off the pitch so far.
“As for Newcastle, their last three results have been pivotal for them. They definitely now have the quality within the group and they have a great young manager in Eddie Howe,” Pardew told West Ham’s website.
Pardew on Howe: Newcastle boss doing the perfect job, so far
Howe has done everything fans will have wanted him to do. Under Bruce, fans became fed up with his negative style of play – and angry with Mike Ashley for a lack of investment. But that has all changed.
Howe has got his players fitter, working harder on the training ground, and playing a more attacking style of football. He has reconnected fans and played a crucial part in the January window – making five new signings.
