Alan Pardew believes Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli will change position

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has played in a deeper role in his side’s last two matches.

Alan Pardew has told Sky Sports that he believes that Mauricio Pochettino is planning to make Dele Alli a central midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur.

Alli has generally been stationed as a number 10 since arriving at Spurs, but in the last two games he has played in a slightly deeper role.

The England international has been deployed as a central midfielder, and he has scored in both matches – against Liverpool and West Ham United.

And Pardew believes that as Alli gains more experience he will eventually be given a deeper role on a permanent basis.

“I think his natural position isn’t a number 10,” Pardew said. “I think he’ll go back one to be a central midfield player. He’s playing deeper tonight and I think Pochettino is looking at him there, with Son in the 10.”

If Alli is moved into a deeper position for Spurs then it could benefit England, due to their dearth of options in central midfield.

It remains to be seen whether Alli will continue as a central midfielder in Tottenham’s next match, as that would be a real show of faith by Pochettino.

Spurs are due to take on Manchester United on Saturday, in what looks to be a crucial match for both side’s seasons.

If Spurs can pick up the victory they will leapfrog United and move into second place in the Premier League table.
