West Bromwich Albion were beaten 2-1 by West Ham United at the London Stadium last night.

Alan Pardew has suggested to West Bromwich Albion’s official website that Oliver Burke made a mistake by going for the winner against West Ham United last night.

With the score locked at 1-1, Burke broke forward to West Brom in injury time, and decided to whip in a cross, rather than play safe.

West Ham ended up countering on Pardew’s side, and scoring the winner, with Andy Carroll smashing in from close range in the last minute.

And Pardew admits that Burke should have held the ball in the corner, rather than risk going for a winner.

“We get Oli [Burke] running down the corner in the 94th minute – if it had been me I’d have run it into the corner and accepted the point,” Pardew said.

“But we’re under pressure to get a win and I can understand why he’s put it in the box. Then they go up the other end and score.”

Burke has struggled for first-team opportunities since moving to the Hawthorns in the summer, so his decision to cross rather than play safe is unlikely to aid his chances of being picked.

West Brom’s defeat to West Ham has left them in severe danger of being cut adrift in the relegation zone.

The Baggies have now failed to win for 20 Premier League matches, and are four points away from safety.

West Brom are next in action at the weekend, when they take on League Two side Exeter City in the FA Cup.
