Celtic have lost defender Liam Morrison to Bayern Munich.

Pundit Alan McInally has told The Scottish Sun that he is ‘chuffed’ to see defender Liam Morrison make the decision to leave Celtic for Bayern Munich.

The Bhoys have seen the likes of Kieran Tierney, Callum McGregor and James Forrest come through their youth setup in recent years, and were hoping Morrison would do the same.

The centre back was in and around the Celtic first-team over the summer, despite only being 16 as Neil Lennon looked to show him a pathway to first-team football at Parkhead.

However, Morrison has decided to leave Celtic, and completed a move to German giants Bayern Munich earlier this month.

The teenager will now look to come up through the Bayern ranks in the coming years, and McInally is well-placed to offer him some words of wisdom.

McInally – now a Sky Sports pundit – was with Celtic before heading off to Aston Villa in 1989, and then on to Bayern, so Morrison only has to look to his fellow Scot for inspiration.

McInally spent for years with Bayern, and Morrison will be looking for an even longer spell with the club having arrived so young, but there is plenty of hard work ahead.

McInally has now admitted that he is ‘chuffed’ to see Morrison make the move, believing it takes real guts to make such an ambitious switch, and urged him to be prepared to improve at things he already thinks he’s good at, and to seize the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in Bavaria.

“I’m chuffed Liam has decided to make this move,” said McInally. “It takes guts and I applaud his attitude when he says he wants to be one of the game’s top defenders. That augurs well for his future. He’s clearly a kid with talent and the drive to succeed.

“Liam will need to be confident from day one. It’s important to learn the language quickly, rather than rely on the others to speak English. He’s young enough, so I’m sure his mind will act like a sponge and he’ll adapt without too many problems. He must be prepared to get better at the things he’s already good at, as well as working on any weaknesses he has. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance and you have to grab it,” he added.
