Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United are level on points with Sheffield United.

Former Aston Villa striker Alan McInally predicted on Sky Sports News on Friday evening (5:16pm, April 19, 2019) that Sheffield United will finish ahead of Leeds United in the Championship table this season.

McInally made the prediction following Leeds’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wigan Athletic at Elland Road in the Championship on Friday afternoon.

The loss means that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are now third in the league table, level on points with second-placed United.

McInally believes that the Blades will clinch automatic promotion to the Premier League instead of Leeds.

The former Scotland international striker, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has also criticised Leeds forward Patrick Bamford for his performance against the Latics.

The 56-year-old has also underlined the importance of 23-year-old central midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who has also been deployed as a central defender by Bielsa this season.

According to WhoScored, Phillips has made 40 appearances in the Championship for Leeds so far this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process.

McInally said on Sky Sports News on Friday evening (5:16pm, April 19, 2019): “I am going to go for Sheffield United now. That result (defeat for Leeds) is humongous.”

McInally added about Bamford’s performance: “Patrick Bamford in the second half didn’t do enough for me, he really had to do more.”

The pundit said about Phillips on Sky Sports News on Friday afternoon (2:30pm, April 19, 2019): “If the boy Kalvin Phillips is injured, they have no chance.

“In fact Kalvin Phillips is one of the most important players in the team, regardless of the two centre-backs.”
