West Ham United have conceded 17 times in nine Premier League matches.
Alan McInally has told Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 27th October, that West Ham United’s problem this season is purely in defence.
West Ham may be limited on their options up-front, with Michail Antonio starting in the striking position against Chelsea in the EFL Cup last night.
However, McInally does not doubt the quality of the Hammers going forward.
The Sky Sports pundit suggests that West Ham will always create chances, but he is slightly concerned about the quality of their defence.
“I don’t think there’s any doubting of the attacking quality West Ham have got, but defensively they need to be more rock solid,” he said.
“I think they’ll create chances, but they’re still shaky at the back.”
West Ham struggled to keep goals out over the early part of the season, and they conceded four times against the likes of Watford and West Bromwich Albion.
However, the Hammers have switched to a three-man defence in recent times and looked far more solid.
West Ham have won their last three matches, to move up the Premier League table and qualify for the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.
West Ham are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Everton at Goodison Park.
