Alfredo Morelos scored the winner as Rangers came from behind twice to win at Ibrox on Thursday night – and Alan Hutton told BBC Radio 5 Live that you could “see the emotion pouring out of him” when celebrating his effort.

In what was Michael Beale’s first game in charge, Rangers were humbled by Hibs. Target Ryan Porteous showed what he can do, with a superb header early on – although, completely unchallenged. Fashion Sakala equalised.

But moments later, it was 2-1. Kevin Nisbet capitalising on some incredibly shoddy defending between makeshift centre-back pair John Lundstram and James Sands, to flick an effort past Allan McGregor. Rangers, were poor.

A game of two halves. Rangers were so much better in the second half – and got their second when Malik Tillman flicked a header into Ryan Jack. Then, a moment of magic from Tillman, to set up Morelos to finish with ease.

By far the best player on the pitch, Tillman managed to keep himself steady to find Morelos – earning comparisons with Joe Aribo post-match. But for Morelos, a fourth goal of the season. Hutton says you can see it meant a lot.

“He needed a goal. You could see the emotion pouring out of him in the celebration. What a wonderful move from Rangers. This is what they can do to teams when they quicken up play,” Hutton said, as per BBC Live’s coverage.

Not only was it a meaningful goal for Morelos, but a huge one for Rangers, too. It gives the whole place a lift and while it was far from perfect, Beale now has something to build on. Ahead of Tuesday night, he needs players back.

The club have been riddled by injury. Even on Thursday night, Antonio Colak and Leon King pulled out at the last minute. Connor Goldson and Ben Davies had only trained for a matter of days. So, things can only get better.

If Beale could have asked for anything on Thursday at Ibrox, it would have been for Morelos to nab a goal. Even better, he scored the winner to the delight of the Ibrox support – having gone behind twice beforehand.
