Robert Snodgrass was outstanding during his loan spell at Aston Villa as they came within one game of securing promotion.

Alan Hutton has told Aston Villa’s official website that he still speaks to Robert Snodgrass about the Villans, and insisted that the West Ham star still has a soft spot for the Championship club.
Snodgrass spent last season on loan at Villa Park at a time when his Hammers career prospects looked bleak just a few months after his £10.2 million move (via BBC Sport). But he was outstanding for Villa, scoring seven goals and contributing 14 assists in the league as the side got within one game of securing promotion to the Premier League.
His form appeared to play a key role in ensuring that the Scotland international got another shot at West Ham upon his return in the summer. And he has remained a key part of Manuel Pellegrini’s plans throughout the campaign.
But as Villa look to go one better this year, Hutton suggested that Snodgrass is still taking a keen interest in how Dean Smith’s men get on.

“He does have a soft spot for Aston Villa, of course he does,” he told the club’s official website. “He came here and did really well. He’s gone on and done well at West Ham too.
“His performances here at Aston Villa have led to him being established at West Ham. He’s playing every week in the Premier League and he’s going from strength to strength. I still talk to him about Aston Villa. We’re very close. I have his wedding to go to this summer. He’s a great guy.”

As things stand, the stage looks perfectly set for Villa to go on and clear the hurdle that proved just a little too big last season. Smith’s side have won their last eight games to fly into the top six.
The top two may just be too far out of reach now, but with Leeds and Norwich ahead in their final two games of the regular season, Villa have a fantastic chance to send out a further warning to all of their rivals looking to make it to Wembley.
