Do Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a striker in January?
Alan Curbishley has told Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino needs to invest in a “marquee centre forward” in January.
Tottenham are fifth in the Premier League table, one point behind fourth-placed Arsenal but 10 adrift of Chelsea at the summit.
Winning the title seems unlikely at this moment in time and the deficit between them and the Blues could perhaps be traced back to how Spurs coped – or didn’t cope – when star striker Harry Kane was missing for six weeks.
Vincent Janssen, an £18 million signing in the summer, failed to take up the goalscoring mantle, whereas Son Heung-min’s form also dropped.
The Dutch striker has netted three goals for the Lilywhites but all three have been from the penalty spot and, at the moment, he looks a long way from being good enough for the Premier League.
And former Charlton boss Curbishley feels that Pochettino needs to invest in a big-money striker to rival Kane, noting that it may cause selection problems but stressing that it is essential.
“For me, I think if Tottenham can invest in another marquee centre forward to help Harry Kane, that’s what they need,” told Curbishley to Sky Sports News.
“I think to round that squad off, I know it’s going to cause managerial problems in terms of picking the players, but I think they need to bring another marquee centre forward in.”
