Alan Browne claims media make Leeds United out to be a ‘world-class team’

Leeds United take on Preston North End on Tuesday night.

Preston North End midfielder Alan Browne has told the Lancashire Evening Post that he thinks the media talk up Leeds United to be a ‘world-class’ team.

Preston are attempting to make a late charge for the play-off places, but their hopes took a real blow on Saturday as they lost 1-0 at home to Sheffield United.

The Lilywhites just couldn’t quite break down Chris Wilder’s side, and now face a crucial game against Leeds in a last-ditch attempt to make up some ground on the top six.

Alex Neil’s side were hammered 3-0 at Elland Road back in September, but were the first team to beat Marcelo Bielsa in a competitive game in England, claiming a 2-0 EFL Cup win in August.

Neil will be hoping for a repeat of that tomorrow, but facing third-placed Leeds straight after taking on second-placed Sheffield United is far from an ideal situation for North End.

Leeds will be desperate to avoid another away defeat after losing at Birmingham City on Saturday, especially having immediately relinquished second place just after claiming it back.

Leeds are one of the most talked-about teams in the Championship, with huge praise coming in for Bielsa throughout the season, which Preston ace Browne has now commented on.

Irish international Browne has starred this season, and has now admitted that he thinks the media talk up Leeds like they’re world-class, but personally doesn’t think they’re world-beaters, even though he does think they’re ‘very good’ and were by far the better team against Preston in September.

“I don’t think Leeds are world beaters to be honest. I think it is the media who make them out to be this world-class team.” said Browne. “They are a very good team, they beat us at their place and were great on the night. We were nowhere near it that night and I think this one will be a totally different game – I hope so anyway.”

“As a team we go into any game wanting to win, this one is no different. We came up against Norwich when they were top of the league and showed that we really wanted it. That is something we want to do against Leeds but obviously it is going to be a tough game,” he added.
