Alan Brazil believes that Tottenham Hotspur are lacking a bit of star quality in the middle of the park.
Alan Brazil has suggested on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (broadcast on 28th September 2017; 6:53 am) that he feels that all Tottenham lack is a playmaker of similar quality to Eden Hazard and Philippe Coutinho.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have made another bright start to the season, as they currently sit fourth in the Premier League and have made an excellent start to their Champions League group-stage campaign.
Spurs have failed to win just once in all competitions since the end of the transfer window. And while former Spurs striker Brazil was complimentary about the majority of the squad, he suggested that Tottenham still lacked that little bit of magic in the middle of the park that both Chelsea and Liverpool have available to them.
“I’d love to see a Hazard or Coutinho, that type of player in the midfield,” he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (broadcast on 28th September 2017; 6:53 am).
“I think that’s maybe just what’s missing, a sparkle in midfield. I think defensively, they’re very good, up front brilliant, [they need] a little playmaker in there.”
While he does not seem to be considered in the same category as Hazard or Coutinho, there can surely be no doubt that much of Spurs’ success has come from the boots of Christian Eriksen this term.
The Dane has been brilliant in attacking midfield this term, scoring twice and contributing three assists in the top flight and in Europe so far, and his understanding with the rest of the attacking players often makes the side extremely exciting to watch going forward.
And while Tottenham would obviously not mind having more players of that level in their squad as they look to compete on various fronts, Eriksen would certainly argue with Brazil that the current squad lacks those kind of players altogether.
