Alan Brazil has strong words for Leeds United’s Samuel Saiz

Leeds United won against Port Vale in the EFL Cup last week.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United forward Alan Brazil wrote in The Sunday Post (print edition, page 96, August 13, 2017) that Leeds United attacker Samuel Saiz should be banned for six matches if he is found guilty of spitting.

Port Vale manager Michael Brown was quoted as saying by The Guardian last week that Saiz, who can operate as a forward or as an attacking midfielder, spat in the face of defender Joe Davis in the 40th minute of the EFL Cup first-round tie between the two sides at Elland Road last Wednesday evening.

A Leeds spokesman has since been quoted as saying by The Daily Mail that the 26-year-old has denied the allegations.

The Daily Star has reported that the FA have launched an investigation into the allegation, and has claimed that if the 26-year-old is found guilty, then he could be banned for six matches.

Former Tottenham and Ipswich Town forward Brazil has stated that if Saiz is found guilty of spitting, then he should get a six-game ban, adding that he was disgusted when he heard about the incident.

“I was disgusted when I heard Leeds United’s Spanish star Samu Saiz was accused of gobbing in Port Vale defender Joe Davis’ face during the week,” Brazil, who now works as a presenter on talkSPORT, wrote in The Sunday Post (print edition, page 96, August 13, 2017). “It’s the worst thing you can do to somebody on a pitch.

“Fair enough, inflicting a broken leg on an opponent will hurt more and have longer-lasting consequences, but these things sometimes happen when players tackle each other.

“Spitting is uniquely disgusting because there is absolutely no justification for it. Leeds star Saiz denies the allegation but, if he is found to have spat, he should be hammered by the FA.”

“So if Samu Saiz is found guilty of spitting on an opponent, he should get a six-game ban,” added Brazil later on in the column. “Nothing else will do.”

Saiz scored a hat-trick against Vale, as Leeds won the EFL Cup tie 4-1 to progress to the second round of the competition.

The Championship club signed the Spanish attacking player from Huesca in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Yorkshire Evening Post to be worth £3 million.
