Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers hired Steven Gerrard last week.

Alan Brazil has suggested to The Sunday Post that Steven Gerrard’s appointment won’t help Rangers overtake Celtic, agreeing with Ally McCoist’s claim about Pep Guardiola.
The 37-year-old signed a four-year deal last week to become the Rangers manager, succeeding Graeme Murty.
Gerrard, who was in charge of a Liverpool youth side last month, has no experience of managing a senior football team and therefore his appointment has been met with skepticism by many in Scottish football.
His job will be to bridge the gap to Celtic’s quality and ultimately surpass the Hoops, who could win back-to-back domestic trebles by beating Motherwell in a Scottish Cup final later this month.

At the moment, there is a huge difference in quality between both Old Firm rivals, and Brazil reveals that Rangers legend McCoist said to him that even Pep Guardiola arriving at Ibrox would not change the status quo in Scottish football.
He told The Sunday Post: “My pal Ally McCoist said to me that even if Pep Guardiola took over Rangers right now, he’d still end up finishing second behind the Hoops.I reckon that’s not too far wide of the mark.”
Recruitment will be of paramount importance if the Liverpool icon is to succeed in Glasgow, and The Sun reported on Sunday that Reds striker Dominic Solanke was Gerrard’s “top target” for the summer transfer window.
