Mike Ashley was previously a shareholder at Glasgow Rangers before selling his shares in the Ibrox club in June this year.

Alan Brazil has claimed on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (broadcast on 17th October 2017; 9:53 am) that Rangers supporters in the know would jump at the chance to have former shareholder Mike Ashley back involved with the club in some capacity.

Newcastle United owner Ashley is back in the headlines this week, with the news that the Magpies confirmed on their official website that the club’s parent company have put the club up for sale, while BBC Sport reports that Ashley wants to find a buyer before Christmas.

Given that the 53-year-old has never had the best relationship with the supporters, the news unsurprisingly received plenty of positive reaction from the fans.

The reaction may perhaps evoke memories for Rangers supporters of how many of them felt when it was announced back in June that Ashley had sold his shares in the Scottish Premiership club after he also endured a turbulent time while he was associated with the Gers.

However, Brazil has somewhat defended the job that Ashley has done on the business front at Newcastle, and suggested that he knows that many Rangers fans would be open to seeing the businessman return to Ibrox in some capacity.

“Rangers fans couldn’t wait to get him out the door, but I know the way things are going at Rangers at the moment, they’d have him back tomorrow, the ones who are in the know would,” he said on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT.

Rangers fans, would you welcome Ashley back like Brazil suggests?
