Wayne Rooney has not been selected in Everton’s last two Premier League games.

Wayne Rooney of Everton looks on during the Premier League match between Everton and Watford at Goodison Park on November 5, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

talkSPORT host Alan Brazil has said on his Sports Breakfast show, broadcast on November 29, that Wayne Rooney will be recalled to the first XI if and when Sam Allardyce is named as Everton boss.

The Guardian have reported that Allardyce will be named as Ronald Koeman’s successor at Everton after a month-long search.

Caretaker boss David Unsworth will take charge of his last game tonight when the Toffees host West Ham United at Goodison Park.

Rooney has been an unused substitution in their last two Premier League games – a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace and a 4-1 defeat by Southampton on Sunday – in a decision which has seen Unsworth court criticism, with the 32-year-old scoring four in 10 league outings.

Nevertheless, Brazil said on his Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT this morning that he believes Allardyce will bring back the legendary striker.

“He’s got blue blood. He’s got Everton blood but he’s not been handled properly. I bet you Sam plays him. I bet that as long he’s 100% fit Sam will play him.”

Rooney hasn’t been setting the Premier League alight, but four goals in 10 games isn’t a bad return for a side who patently need goals and bringing the Manchester United legend – who is the Red Devil’s all-time record goalscorer – back would be the smart option.
