Phil Jagielka is being linked with a move to Celtic this week.

Alan Brazil has given his blessing for Celtic to sign Phil Jagielka.

The 36-year-old defender is a free agent after being released by Everton earlier this month.

On Wednesday, The Sun reported that Celtic boss Neil Lennon was toying with the idea of bringing him to Parkhead this summer.

The Hoops need a couple of new centre-halves after losing Dedryck Boyata on a Bosman, while Filip Benkovic has gone back to parent club Leicester City for now.

And Celtic-daft Brazil, speaking on his breakfast show on talkSPORT [broadcast 08/06], seemed to encourage his club to sign the veteran Englishman.

“Talking of Jagielka, I hear he is in talks with Celtic, maybe heading to Parkhead. Go on Phil, do it!”

This might be a good signing for the Scots if it were to materialise. Yes, he’s past his best, but only by Premier League standards. Even at 36, Jagielka could still be a big player in the Scottish Premiership.

He had some cracking games for Everton toward the end of last season and although Lennon still needs some younger replacements for Benkovic and Boyata, some experience might not go amiss either.

Jagielka, who earned £50,000 per week at Goodison Park [Silly Season], has 40 England caps and 360 top-flight appearances under his belt, scoring 18 times.
