Rangers defensive midfielder Ryan Jack returned to Ibrox during the international break with an injury, and manager Steven Gerrard was not happy.
Jack picked up a knee injury while on international duty with Scotland and was sent back to Rangers early.
Rangers manager Gerrard said that he is “annoyed” that the 27-year-old defensive midfielder did a double session and ran 11km just 48 hours after the Old Firm derby against Celtic at Ibrox, as quoted in The Scottish Sun.
Former Scotland international forward Alan Brazil – who now works as a presenter on talkSPORT and stated in The Sunday Post in July 2017 – has given his take on the situation, and he has suggested that Jack is not entirely blameless.
Former Manchester United and Scotland international midfielder Michael Stewart has also had his say on the controversy surrounding Jack.
Brazil wrote in The Sunday Post: “As it stands, from all the information I have of the situation, I don’t think Ryan Jack can be blameless in all of this.
“For all we know, he may have said nothing to the Scotland staff about his knee problem, and I can understand why he might have done that.
“He’s a lad who wants to play for his country. He’s 27 and he’s only got two caps, so it’s no wonder he’s eager.”
Stewart wrote in The Scottish Sun: “And what’s interesting to me is that Jack himself doesn’t appear to have flagged anything up at the time.
“Gerrard said he hadn’t spoken to his player about it because he was too annoyed. But it might just be the sessions were light enough that Jack didn’t feel it was an issue.
“After all this is a 27-year-old man with two caps trying to make a good impression on a new regime.”
Moving on
Jack is an important player for Rangers, and while one can understand why Gerrard is not happy with the situation, perhaps it is time to move on.
